August 3, 2026, is the 215th day of the year, with 150 days remaining, and it falls on a Monday — in the thirty-second week of the year.
With 10 national and international days on the calendar, August 3 is anchored by two emotionally resonant observances. Terry Fox Day honors the Canadian runner who covered 5,373 km on a prosthetic leg before cancer stopped him, and whose foundation has raised over $850 million. Esther Day is a community-born tradition that asks people to tell the non-romantic loves in their lives exactly that. National Watermelon Day arrives at peak season, CLOVES Syndrome Awareness Day highlights one of the rarest conditions documented, and a big forehead gets its well-deserved celebration.

10 celebrations on this dayNational Watermelon Day
National Watermelon Day falls on August 3, right at the peak of watermelon season in North America. This fruit is 92% water and remains one of summer’s most iconic foods. Watermelons have been cultivated for over 5,000 years, with origins tracing back to the Kalahari Desert in Africa, and today the US produces more than a billion pounds annually. Whether sliced cold, blended into agua fresca, or cubed into a salad with feta and mint, watermelon truly captures the taste of summer.
Terry Fox Day
Terry Fox Day honors the Canadian athlete and cancer research activist who lost his right leg to osteosarcoma at age 18. In 1980, he set out to run across Canada on a prosthetic leg in what he called the Marathon of Hope, aiming to raise money for cancer research. He ran 5,373 km in 143 days before he was forced to stop after the cancer spread to his lungs. He died in June 1981 at age 22. Since then, the Terry Fox Foundation has raised over $850 million for cancer research worldwide.
Esther Day
Esther Day honors Esther Grace Earl, the teenager whose friendship with John Green inspired The Fault in Our Stars. She asked that her birthday be used to celebrate love between friends and family rather than romantic love. Esther died of thyroid cancer in 2010 at age 16. Embraced by the nerdfighter community, the day is a call to tell the non-romantic people in your life that you love them, out loud, today.
CLOVES Syndrome Awareness Day
CLOVES Syndrome Awareness Day raises awareness of one of the rarest conditions in the world, a non-hereditary congenital disorder caused by a mutation in the PIK3CA gene. This mutation results in abnormal growth of fatty tissue, blood vessels, skin, and the spine. CLOVES stands for Congenital Lipomatous Overgrowth, Vascular malformations, Epidermal nevi, and Scoliosis/skeletal anomalies. Fewer than 200 cases have been formally documented worldwide.

Here’s every observance celebrated on August 3, 2026.
National & International Days on August 3
Whether you’re eating watermelon, honoring Terry Fox, telling a friend you love them for Esther Day, raising CLOVES awareness, celebrating Georgia, grabbing some nuts, glossing your hair, cleaning your floors, appreciating crop dusters, or simply owning your forehead with confidence, here’s the story behind each of these August 3 celebrations.
Big Forehead Day
Big Forehead Day challenges negative beauty standards by encouraging people to embrace larger foreheads with confidence. Celebrated humorously as “Five-Head Day” by some, the observance blends pop culture, history, and body positivity. In some traditions, a prominent forehead symbolizes wisdom or fortune. Historical references even suggest it was once considered a sign of nobility and intellect, especially in 15th-century Europe.
Clean Your Floors Day
Clean Your Floors Day is a practical reminder to take care of one of the most heavily used parts of any building. Floors harbor dirt, allergens, and bacteria—making regular cleaning essential for health and safety. It also helps preserve flooring materials and keeps living and working spaces welcoming. The day was established by Holloway House, the company behind Quick Shine floor products.
CLOVES Syndrome Awareness Day
CLOVES Syndrome Awareness Day brings attention to a rare condition—Congenital Lipomatous Overgrowth, Vascular malformations, Epidermal nevi, and Scoliosis/Skeletal anomalies (CLOVES). First recognized as a distinct syndrome in 2007, CLOVES is caused by genetic mutations during early development. The day supports those affected by the condition while promoting awareness, early diagnosis, and improved care strategies.
National Georgia Day
National Georgia Day honors the U.S. state of Georgia, the last of the original 13 colonies and the fourth to ratify the Constitution. Known as the Peach State, Georgia is also a major producer of pecans, peanuts, and blueberries. Beyond agriculture, the state played a pivotal role in the Civil Rights Movement and remains a cultural powerhouse with Atlanta serving as a hub for business, entertainment, and history.
National Grab Some Nuts Day
National Grab Some Nuts Day invites people to enjoy all types of edible nuts—from almonds to walnuts to pistachios. While the origin of the day remains unclear, it has sometimes sparked confusion between culinary nuts and the metal hardware variety. Regardless, this food-focused day reminds people to snack smart, since nuts are high in healthy fats, protein, and essential nutrients.
National Hair Gloss Day
National Hair Gloss Day was founded in 2022 by Redken in partnership with National Day Calendar. It highlights the benefits of gloss treatments for hair health and shine. Glosses add subtle color, smooth the hair cuticle, and improve vibrancy without the commitment of permanent dye. The day also honors hairstylists who use their craft to help people feel confident and look their best.
National Watermelon Day
National Watermelon Day honors one of summer’s most iconic fruits—cultivated in Africa over 5,000 years ago and even found in ancient Egyptian tombs as a hydration source in dry seasons. This juicy melon is about 92 % water, delivers vitamin A, vitamin C and the antioxidant lycopene, and offers refreshment that’s low in calories yet rich in flavor.
