Draw a Picture of a Bird Day
Draw a Picture of a Bird Day traces back to 1943, when seven-year-old Dorie Cooper visited her uncle, a wounded WWII soldier in a hospital in England, and asked him to draw a bird for her. The idea spread through the ward, and after Dorie was tragically killed by a car three years later, her coffin was filled with bird pictures from the soldiers. National All Is Ours Day
National All Is Ours Day invites people to pause and appreciate the world around them. The day centers on three approaches to appreciation: reflecting on the beauty of nature, being grateful for what one has in life, and sharing what you have with others. The choice of “ours” in the name rather than “mine” signals that the day is meant to be enjoyed collectively, with others, rather than as an individual pursuit.
National Biomechanics Day
National Biomechanics Day (NBD) was founded in 2016 by Dr. Paul DeVita to introduce young people to careers in biomechanics, engineering, and kinesiology through hands-on STEM and STEAM education. Sponsored by The Biomechanics Initiative, the day has expanded to over 30 countries, reaching thousands of students.
