International Carrot Day, or simply Carrot Day, is observed every year on April 4 and stands as the pinnacle event for carrot lovers around the world. Founded in 2003, the day was created with a purpose to spread knowledge about the carrot and its many good attributes.
It is one of the few food holidays with a real founding organization behind it, which gives it more substance than the countless informal food days that exist without any traceable origin. By 2012, the day had gained enough traction that celebrations were being reported across France, Italy, Sweden, the USA, Australia, the UK, and Japan.
The carrot earns its dedicated day on nutritional merit alone. It is an excellent source of beta-carotene, fiber, vitamin A, and potassium, nutrients that support healthy eyesight, digestion, and blood pressure regulation. It is also worth noting that cooking carrots yields more nutrition than eating them raw, as heat breaks down the harder-to-digest components of the vegetable. Few everyday vegetables offer this much, at this little cost.

Celebrating the day is straightforward by design. The founders recommend gathering friends for a carrot party, serving carrots as snacks followed by carrot cake or another carrot dish, with carrot juice as the drink of choice. On the style front, true enthusiasts are encouraged to dress in an orange tail suit with a green hat, while newcomers are welcome to simply wear something orange.
At its heart, Carrot Day is a genuine initiative to draw attention to a vegetable that is affordable, nutritious, versatile, and all too easy to overlook.
