If you are even somewhat serious about your TikTok account, you definitely want more people to see your content. The best way to achieve this is to get your videos on the For You page.
The For You page is practically the main TikTok feed, consisting of videos that the algorithm considers to be of interest to you, based on your viewing habits. There is also a Following tab, which shows videos from those you follow, but let’s be real, how often do you check the Following tab to see what people you follow have posted? I guess your answer is “never” or “seldom”. In other words, if you want to get millions of views and hopefully a ton of likes, comments and shares, you main goal should be to get to the For You page.
But how do you get there?
4 Things to Always Keep in Mind When You Create and Post Videos on TikTok
#1 What Videos Should You Post?
If you want to get your content to the For You page, it is important that you post content that is similar to the type of content you already see there: the dances, the challenges and all the other stuff that is trending. There is no need to reinvent the wheel. While you are just starting on TikTok, use the ideas that are already working for others.
There is plenty of viral content to choose from. So just go and choose 10 videos that you like on For You page. Add them to your Favourites. Then just recreate them. If you do exactly the same thing as shown on one of those videos and use good lighting, I am almost certain that you will get at least one of these videos to the For You page of other TikTok users.
One more tip: when you find something that works for you (dances, funny videos or something else) you can do this over and over again. You don’t need to do something different all the time. You can be an expert in your own niche, rather than a jack-of-all-trades.
#2 What Hashtags Should You Use?
TikTok doesn’t have limits on how many hashtags you use. However, you probably don’t want to use more than around 4-5 hashtags, because otherwise they easily take up much of the screen. Too many hashtags makes the video look ugly and people won’t want to engage with a video like that.
The simplest hashtag strategy for getting viral on TikTok is the following:
- use max 1-2 trending #hashtags
- use max 1-2 hashtags relevant to the content of your video
- if you think your video is worthy of the For You page, include the hashtags #fyp #foryoupage OR #tiktok.
#3 When Should You Post?
The best time to post on TikTok is something like 6 PM to 12 AM on workdays. On weekends you can post throughout the day but people tend to interact less then.
#4 How Often Should You Post?
Another thing you should keep in mind is consistency. It is very important that you don’t take too many days off from TikTok. If you show up every day with a new video, you have much higher chances to get to the For You page.
Some people who managed to gain a large following on TikTok, posted very often in the beginning. When you get famous on TikTok, you can slow down and post only once a day. Before you get there, your aim is to post at least 5 videos a day.
